The Sofia First Chronicle (SIL, S1L) is the most important monument of Russian chronicle writing, dating back to 1418 and forming the basis for all all-Russian chronicles of the second half of the 15th and early 16th centuries. Along with the Novgorod Fourth Chronicle (N4L), it goes back to their common source, which A. A. Shakhmatov called the Novgorod-Sophia vault. Initially, Shakhmatov dated this vault to 1448, then changed his mind and settled on the 1430s, his position was accepted by D S. Likhachev and Y. S. Lurie. According to A.G. Bobrov and B.M. Kloss, this common source is actually the code of Metropolitan Photius of 1418.
