The collection includes key works of ancient Russian literature of the 12th-17th centuries, clearly reflecting its genre, stylistic and figurative-thematic diversity: “The Tale of Bygone Years” is the first Russian chronicle created by the monk of the Kiev-Pechersk Monastery Nestor; The “Teaching” of the Grand Duke of Kyiv Vladimir Monomakh is the first Russian secular sermon; “The Prayer of Daniil the Zatochnik” is one of the early experiments in Russian noble journalism; “The Tale of the Ruin of Ryazan by Batu” and “The Tale of Misfortune-Grief.” All texts are published in translations by the outstanding Russian literary critic, academician D.
