Thousands of works have been written about why people drink, and we will not repeat what has long been known. In our book-research we will try to understand why those people who are not usually classified as simple drank, and what influence wine had on their creativity. When you read Omar Khayyam’s poems about wine, you get the impression that they were written, if not by an alcoholic, then by a notorious drunkard. Although in reality this was not the case. Of course, there are many reasons for drinking. Some drink because of a lack of education, others because of its excess, since much knowledge, as we know, gives rise to many sorrows. And how can one not recall the words of Ovid that “a heavy burden of worries melts in abundant wine.” But sadness, as life shows, is not yet a reason for excessive consumption of wine. Of course, the destructive passion for wine of creative people has a slightly different dimension. As for creative individuals, their achievements are ultimately determined not by what and how they drank, but by what they achieved. And, who knows, it wasn’t exhausting work that ultimately dictated the momentary relaxation that was so terrible in its end result. We will talk about writers, artists, politicians, royalty, poets, composers and actors. That is, about all those who are in constant search and tension. About those for whom failure can become a tragedy of a lifetime, and about those for whom wine actually helped, taking them to a new level. It has long been no secret that wine has helped many creative individuals find inspiration.
