The book publishes for the first time a manuscript from the collection of the St. Petersburg branch of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SPbF IV RAS), containing the text of “The Tale of Maharaja Marakarma” - a literary monument belonging to the genre of magical and adventurous romantic epic “hikayat”, widespread in the Malay world. . The roots of this plot, widely known both in the written and oral and theatrical traditions of the Malay-speaking peoples, go back to the pre-Muslim era; more than a dozen manuscripts containing the text of the monument have been preserved. The published manuscript from the collection of the St. Petersburg Branch of the Institute of Oriental Studies RAS is unique and describes the events that followed the marriage of the main character and his ascension to the throne.
