Publishing a book half a century after its first edition has a double meaning. Firstly, after the publication of a two-volume book on the Nuremberg Trials, the topic of the Holocaust in the Soviet Union was practically hushed up, so that for the first time the Russian reader can become familiar with Hannah Arendt’s extremely meticulous research. Secondly, as sad as it may be, the topic of crimes against humanity at the beginning of the 21st century. turned out to be more relevant than ever, be it the war of extermination in Sudanese Dafur, the genocide and ousting of Serbs from Kosovo, or the third bloody attempt by the Tbilisi authorities to create “Georgia for Georgians.” Unfortunately, the West is persistently trying to “privatize” the topic of crimes against humanity, using the Hague Tribunal as a one-way tool. It is the meticulousness of Hannah Arendt, who carefully analyzes not only the course of the Eichmann trial, but also all the legal pitfalls on the way to the well-known result of this trial of the embodiment of the everyday life of absolute evil, that constitutes the main value of this monograph.
