For almost two thousand years, there has been a vibrant literary tradition of presenting “Aesop’s fables” in poetic form. In medieval schools, Europeans learned the intricacies of Latin and Greek from the poetic translations of Babrius and Phaedrus; many generations of Russians grew up on French translations of J. Lafontaine and the fables of A.P. Sumarokov. and Khemnitser I.I., and the work of Krylov I.A. was divided into quotations and forms the features of the Russian cultural code.
