The book by probably the most famous Italian psychoanalyst, long-time president of the Italian Psychoanalytic Association, develops the concept of the analytical field based on the thinking of Bion and Barange, offering its original interpretation. From this point of view, such important topics of psychoanalysis as the criterion of analyzability and completion of analysis, transformations that occur during a session, dead-end and negative therapeutic reactions, sexuality and setting are reviewed. In the following, the author's own concepts are revealed: various approaches to understanding the images and characters that arise during sessions, the patient's continuous signals about the emotional turbulence of the field, the function of the “storyteller”, which is assumed by the analyst, oscillating between fixation-discovery of a specific meaning and holding the possibility of drift semantic direction. Psychoanalysis is presented from the perspective of the patient’s personal history, which they, together with the analyst, transform and build anew, making it richer and freer.
The book will be of interest to psychoanalysts and psychotherapists of other directions, as well as a wide range of educated readers interested in psychology .
