In the “Documentary Prose” section - “Diaries” (1965–1972) by John Fowles (1926–2005) with a foreword by the English historian and film critic Charles Drazin (1960) and translated by Valeria Bernatskaya. Diaries are, by their very nature, a very difficult genre, but the intonation of these entries inspires confidence. The author’s observational skills are also impressive: “Like all movie stars, you feel an icy inside underneath her feigned cordiality. I want to say that this warmth is akin to her cosmetics.”
