The nineteenth novel from the “History of Poland” series by Yu. I. Kraszewski covers the reign of four Polish kings: Casimir Jagiellonczyk (1445–1492), Jan Olbracht (1492–1501), Alexander (1501–1506), Sigismund the Old (1506) –1548).The main character of the novel, the orphan Yashka Orfan, on whose behalf the story is told, is looking for his parents. He serves in turn at the court of these kings and talks about the historical events he witnessed and about his own fate. The novel is published in Russian for the first time.
