Blenda is thirteen years old, Eric is ten, Tura is their mother and is raising them alone. The father, when the children were still small, decided to go to America to try his luck and promised to take the family there, but they no longer received news from him. Is he alive, does he remember them? Blenda hopes so and writes him letters (which have nowhere to send). Tura decides to try to be happy at home and give the children what they have lost, and so one day they move to live on a small island, with the lighthouse keeper. Will the children be able to find a common language with him? How will this person accept children? The family’s life has changed, but can they change themselves in order to live by the new rules? The story “The Lighthouse and the Stars” is addressed to children of middle and high school age.
