Vasilchenko for the first time tells in detail about the famous German Antarctic Expedition of 1938–1939, for the preparation and conduct of which Reichsmarshal Hermann Goering was responsible. Based on documentary material, the author debunks numerous myths about the Antarctic Reich, Hitler's April 1945 escape to the South Pole, and the mysterious submarines and German flying saucers. The author also pays attention to another equally famous military expedition, the “High Altitude Jump” of the American Admiral Richard Byrd. The appendix publishes for the first time a book published in Germany in 1941 by one of the participants of the German Antarctic Expedition, geographer Ernst Herrmann.
