Traditionally, the teacher revealed the secret of bandhas to the student only after the student had mastered the performance of many, sometimes incredibly complex, asanas, pranayamas and mudras. This clearly shows how much respect bandhas enjoyed among yogis. Bandhas include mula bandha, uddiyana bandha and jalandhara bandha. The fourth, maha bandha, is a combination of the previous three. How could it happen that these four exercises are equivalent to hundreds of asanas, pranayamas and mudras?
