Almost twenty years have passed since the first publication of Social and Cultural Dynamics in four volumes. During the past twenty years I have been repeatedly urged by some scholars and readers to prepare an abridged one-volume version of this work, which, by cutting out minor paragraphs, pages and chapters of the original text, would reproduce verbatim all the important parts in the same order and in the same terms in which they originally appeared. given in four volumes. In the friendly opinion of these scholars and readers, such a reduction would make Dynamics accessible to a wide range of researchers and understanding readers - otherwise they would have neither the time to study the voluminous four-volume work nor the means to acquire it. Reduction of the original volume of Dynamics up to one volume was carried out by removing: 1) all paragraphs and pages of secondary importance; 2) almost all the numerous footnotes; 3) all references and extensive bibliography; 4) all applications and sources on which the relevant conclusions are based; and, finally, 5) the first eleven chapters of the fourth volume. Now a few words about what has been added and changed compared to the original text. In addition to the "Bibliography of the Main Works", several small paragraphs have been added to trace the development of the main trends and fluctuations up to the present time. Since the statistical data and theoretical analysis of the Dynamics, published in 1937-1941, do not extend beyond the 1925-1937 period, paragraphs have been added that briefly describe the most significant changes (if, of course, they took place) that occurred during this period. It was traced which trends continue to develop and which of the “Dynamics” predictions came true. Thus, the analysis of the sociocultural situation in the West has been brought to the present time.
