David Fonkinos (b. 1974) is a writer, screenwriter, musician, author of thirteen novels translated into forty languages. His new novel “Charlotte” tells the story of the life of Charlotte Salomon, a German artist who died at the age of twenty-six in a gas Auschwitz cell. She was six months pregnant. In exile in the south of France, she managed to create an amazing autobiographical book called “Life? Or the Theater?”, which included 769 of her works written in gouache. Shortly before her arrest, she entrusted the manuscript to her doctor with the words: “Here is my whole life.”
