A classic play by Anton Chekhov, adapted for the first quarter of the 21st century. August Kotlyar did the following with this work. Firstly, I adapted it to modern realities and rewrote the dialogues into modern Russian, which is in use in 2022. Secondly, through the dialogues he made the characters more prominent and vivid, as much as this did not distort Chekhov’s original plan to write a comedy, and not a tragicomic farce, as he actually ended up doing. Thirdly, he completed the storyline to the happy ending familiar to the modern viewer, when everyone received what they deserved, which Chekhov did not have. In general, the outline of the work and the original Chekhov’s message remained unchanged.
