In 1900, the greatest American storyteller and one of the founders of the fantasy genre, Lyman Frank Baum, published the fairy tale book “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,” which became a world bestseller. Thus began the story of the Magical Land of Oz, which continues to this day. Baum, who took the position of “Court Historian of the Land of Oz,” managed to tell us fourteen wonderful stories about adventures in this amazing country. From 1921 to 1939, this honor passed to the remarkable American children's writer Ruth Plumley Thompson, who added nineteen more works to the Great Canon of the Oz Chronicles. Seven of them were translated into Russian and published in 2001-2003 on the initiative and under the editorship of Evgeniy Vladimirovich Vitkovsky. These are the famous four: Dorothy Gale, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman and the Cowardly Lion, as well as the Wizard, Jelliah and the Greenbeard Soldier (Baum named the Soldier Dean Gyor, but Thompson renamed him Nakraul Marsh). The dinner took place at the invitation of the Wizard, who was eager to talk about his latest invention. After a long flashback that took up the entire first chapter, the Wizard leads his guests to a building with a sparkling dome, inside of which are located two shiny silver aircraft - ozmolet. The master called them “Ozprel” and “Oztyabr”. Guests with interest climb into the aircraft to inspect them. At the Green-bearded Soldier, who ate on dinner twenty-nine pickled cucumbers, suddenly cramps begin. He leans on the control panel of the "Oztyabrya", simultaneously pressing the buttons "gas", "up", "south", "fast", "rotation", "spiral", "zig", "zag", "slow" and "in a circle." The "Oztyabr" soars into the sky and disappears in an unknown direction with the Soldier, the Tin Woodman and Jellia on board, the Wizard, amazed and shocked, goes in pursuit of the "Oztyabr" accompanied by Dorothy, the Brave Lion. and Scarecrows. Not succumbing to despair in a crazy flight, the resourceful Tin Woodman eventually gains control of the aircraft; he decides to practice controlling the ship, and only then return to the Emerald City. At the dawn of a new day, the Woodman sees an unknown heavenly country ahead and lands. there will be a chill there. Wanting to become famous as Captain Nesalaga, he decides to annex this new world to the Land of Oz. However, the country has a name, inhabitants, and a touchy, selfish and aggressive ruler: Aerlandia is owned by King Pykh Aerlandsky. This ruler decides to use the osmolet to capture Ozma and conquer the Land of Oz. He holds the guests captive - although his hostility is somewhat softened by his love for Jellia; he strokes her smooth brown hair, so different from the spiky “electric hair” of the Aerlanders. Despite his love for Jellia, Puff gathers his army of Blowers and boards an osmolet with her, forcing the Tin Woodman to pilot the October back to the Emerald City. The remaining travelers remaining in Aerland will try to find a way to resist this threat of invasion of Oz. Jellia tries to use her influence as vice-queen, but faces opposition from Queen Kabebe. Jellia and the Soldier are in great danger: the Aerlanders are about to push them down the edge of the cliff, when the Wizard and company arrive on the second osmolet. But the osmolet is thrown down by the blowers, and the friends, saving their lives, are forced to jump down from the edge of the Ice Land and fly away on winged sticks stolen from two blower warriors. The wizard uses various magical objects from his trunk to slow down and soften the fall. The would-be travelers find themselves on the Red-Top Mountain in the Land of the Quadlings. The rightful ruler of this place is Princess Azarina, who escaped the clutches of the usurper Bustabo (an even worse villain than Pykh), who captured our travelers. The villain sends the Wizard to search for Azarina, and leaves the rest of his friends as hostages. However, the hostages manage to escape and meet with the Wizard, Azarina and her protectors, the great deer Shagomar and his wife Milochka. The group reaches Glinda's palace, and although the sorceress and Princess Ozma are missing, the Wizard is able to use Glinda's magic to fight the Aerlan invasion. Pyh Aerland and his troops arrive in the Emerald City; residents run and hide. Pykh tries to get his hands on Ozmin's Magic Belt, but fails; The Wizard teams up with Ozma and Glinda to save the Magic Belt, Oz's most powerful magical talisman. After the Belt is in her possession, Ozma sends an army of conquerors back to Aerland. She turns the usurper Bustabo into a red squirrel, so that Azarina can again take her place as a worthy ruler after relaxing in the Emerald City. Source:
