In 1900, the greatest American storyteller and one of the founders of the fantasy genre, Lyman Frank Baum, published the fairy tale book “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,” which became a world bestseller. Thus began the story of the Magical Land of Oz, which continues to this day. Baum, who took the position of “Court Historian of the Land of Oz,” managed to tell us fourteen wonderful stories about adventures in this amazing country. From 1921 to 1939, this honor passed to the remarkable American children's writer Ruth Plumley Thompson, who added nineteen more works to the Great Canon of the Oz Chronicles. Seven of them were translated into Russian and published in 2001-2003 on the initiative and under the editorship of Evgeniy Vladimirovich Vitkovsky. To top it all off, a fierce storm carries away King Fumbo's head. Prince Tryapizio and Grandpa, a former soldier and the bravest man in the kingdom (population of only 27), go on an adventure to retrieve three things: the missing head of King Fumbo; wealth to save the impoverished kingdom; and the princess whom Prince Tryapizio is to marry. On the way, they are joined by Bill, an iron weather vane from Chicago, who came to life during a thunderstorm and was transported by the wind to the Land of Oz. Meanwhile, in the city of Naugad, the soothsayer Abrog (aka the wizard of Hump) threatens disaster for Princess Star: if she does not marry 4 days, then a terrible monster will become her husband. Abrog immediately offers himself as a groom. Since the princess refuses to marry him, Abrog kidnaps her and tries to turn her into a lump of earth; but since she is a beautiful princess, she turns into the beautiful flower fairy Maya. Wide adventures: from Fire Island to Mount Maybe - end with the discovery and installation of the head of King Fumbo. Dorothy (with the help of the forgetful poet Asso Nance) manages to restore order. Prince Tryapizio eventually marries Princess Star - and everything ends well for him. Source:
