In 1900, the greatest American storyteller and one of the founders of the fantasy genre, Lyman Frank Baum, published the fairy tale book “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,” which became a world bestseller. Thus began the story of the Magical Land of Oz, which continues to this day. Baum, who took the position of “Court Historian of the Land of Oz,” managed to tell us fourteen wonderful stories about adventures in this amazing country. From 1921 to 1939, this honor passed to the remarkable American children's writer Ruth Plumley Thompson, who added nineteen more works to the Great Canon of the Oz Chronicles. Seven of them were translated into Russian and published in 2001-2003 on the initiative and under the editorship of Evgeniy Vladimirovich Vitkovsky. Captain Ned Nesalaga (from the book "Pirates in the Land of Oz"), plowing the waters of the Unprecedented Ocean, discovers Osamaland, the legendary land of creeping birds and flying reptiles, as well as the famous White. the city of Om and other lands. Captain Nesalaga appears infrequently in the Oz books, which take place entirely outside of Oz and are only tangentially related to some of its inhabitants (think of Lymon Baum's Rinkitink in Oz). Nesalaga goes from island to island, claiming that their ruler is now Princess Ozma. In Chapter 19 of The Pirates of Oz, Ozma states: "I decree that Ned Nesalaga shall renounce piracy and become our Royal Discoverer and Guide, take possession of new countries and plant the flag of Oz on the distant islands and mountaintops." Nesalaga zealously pursues this line of Ozma, regularly annexing (as some would say, conquering) new islands of the Unknown Ocean to the Land of Oz. Source: 4869569
