Emerging at the end of the 19th century, cinema began to develop rapidly at the beginning of the twentieth century. During this period, a whole galaxy of silent film stars appeared, but almost all of these actors disappeared from the screen after cinema - the “great silent” - began to speak. There was only one exception - Charlie (Charles Spencer) Chaplin. Having become one of the three kings of silent cinema, he brought it closer than others to true art and at the same time managed to adapt to sound cinema. On the screen, Chaplin always remained a comedian who made audiences all over the world laugh until they cried, but in life he seemed completely different, harboring in the depths of his soul the sadness that arose in early childhood. As this man, who knew how to make the audience laugh and cry in half, said: “Life in close-up is a tragedy, but from a distance it seems like a comedy.”
