At the beginning of the 15th century, France and England were at war. They had been fighting for more than fifty years, but could not resolve disputes over the rights to the throne and lands, mired in endless feuds. This series of bloody conflicts went down in history as the Hundred Years' War. It seemed that only a miracle could save France, which was sinking deeper and deeper into the abyss of despair. And it happened: a simple village girl came to the aid of her tormented homeland, claiming that she heard the voice of God. Joan of Arc (1412-1431) not only led the army, but also managed to instill confidence in the soldiers in victory - being next to the girl, the soldiers felt the presence of God and continued to move forward. Vile betrayal and slander led to Jeanne's death, but her image has always been and to this day remains surrounded by an aura of holiness and purity. In 1920, the Roman Catholic Church canonized Joan of Arc. It is safe to say that the short but bright and selfless life of Joan of Arc contributed greatly to the strengthening of France and the subsequent transformation of this country into one of the most powerful monarchies in the world. In France, where power had long been divided between the king and large feudal lords, the idea of the need to unite the country could not help but arise. Joan of Arc contributed to the realization of this dream. It is not surprising that the French love Jeanne, revering her as a national heroine. Joan of Arc became a real symbol of France. She has always personified the ideal of freedom and greatness of the country. It was not without reason that during the Second World War, the leader of the Resistance, Charles de Gaulle, turned to the image of the savior Jeanne and, under her banner, led the French in the fight against the fascist occupiers. Joan's famous words at trial: “If I were a sinner, I could not hear the voice of God. I believe that if people are able to hear the voice of God, they will be saved!” - addressed not only to her compatriots - the leitmotif of all her actions was the belief that all people, regardless of nationality, should live righteously, keeping the commandments. Of course, even now many are inclined to consider her visions to be just illusions. No one is destined to know what really happened, but one thing is clear: Jeanne risked her own life to fulfill a good goal and never doubted her faith, which gave her the opportunity to change the course of history.
