Nelly SACKS (1891–1970) was a German poet. In 1966 she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature: “in recognition of outstanding lyrical and dramatic works in which the fate of Israel is revealed with moving power.” The Swedish Academy noted that Nellie Sachs “from a minor German poetess who wrote about nature, has grown into a poet who has found a powerful voice that has reached the hearts of people all over the world with the echo of Jewish mysticism protesting against the suffering of its people.” The collection “Star Eclipse” is the first publication of Nelly Zaks’s poems in Russia.
