Gaijin is the final novel in the Japanese saga by James Clavell. As a sequel to Tai-Pan, it picks up the story in 1862. Gaijin (foreigners) appear in the country, eager to trade with Nippon. However, the Japanese, led by a captive emperor, rival warlords and fighting samurai, still live under laws that even prohibit the use of wheels on carts. No less exotic and inspired is the narrative of love stories, as if inspired by Alexandre Dumas himself.

Роман "Гайдзін. Том 2" став для мене справжнім відкриттям і захоплюючою подорожжю в японську культуру та історію. Джеймс Клавелл майстерно продовжує сюжет, занурюючи читача в епоху, коли іноземці починають активно взаємодіяти з Японією, що викликає численні конфлікти та непорозуміння. Яскраві персонажі, зокрема самураї та воєначальники, на фоні політичних інтриг та любовних історій створюють неймовірну атмосферу, що захоплює з перших сторінок. Хоча переклад тексту іноді має свої недоліки, це не заважає насолоджуватися глибиною сюжету та емоціями героїв. Клавелл вміло поєднує історичні факти з вигадкою, що робить роман не лише захоплюючим, але й пізнавальним. Рекомендую цю книгу всім, хто цінує якісну літературу та хоче дізнатися більше про Японію в період змін!
