Ross MacDonald (the pseudonym of the American writer Kenneth Millar) managed in his mature work to combine the psychologism and precision of detail of the English detective masters and the swiftness of the plot, the exciting fascination of their American colleagues. The three novels included in the collection were written in the early sixties. They embody in different ways the main idea of MacDonald's work: justice must be restored at all costs; and not only in the present, but also in the past. Translators are not indicated in the book.
