“Ioannis” by the North African early Byzantine poet Flavius Cresconius Corippus (or Gorippus, c. 510 – c. 580) is considered the last poetic epic of Antiquity. The poem, written in hexameters, tells the story of the uprising of the Berber tribes against the Byzantines in North Africa in the second half of the 540s, which Corippus witnessed first-hand, and also recounts the earlier events leading up to this conflict. The poem was preserved in Italy in a single manuscript (although at least three were known during the Renaissance), first published in 1820, but is still practically unknown to the Russian reader. The publishing layout of the book is preserved in PDF A4 format.
The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. Вражаюче повернення до античної поезії!
Книга «Іоанніда» є справжнім скарбом для всіх, хто цікавиться історією та літературою античності. Флавій Кресконій Коріпп, будучи свідком подій, які описує, майстерно передає атмосферу повстання берберських племен проти візантійців, що робить цю поему надзвичайно живою та емоційною. Хоча текст написаний у гекзаметрах, що може бути викликом для сучасного читача, його поетичність та глибина думок заслуговують на увагу. Переклад, виконаний за допомогою штучного інтелекту, в цілому якісний, хоча іноді зустрічаються деякі неточності. Проте це не зменшує цінності самої роботи. Я б рекомендував цю книгу всім, хто хоче зануритися в світ античної поезії та дізнатися більше про історію Північної Африки. «Іоанніда» - це не просто літературний твір, а важливий історичний документ, який варто прочитати!
