The novel in verse by A. S. Pushkin “Eugene Onegin” (1823–1831) is one of the most significant works of Russian literature. The novel covers events from 1819 to 1825: from the foreign campaigns of the Russian army after the defeat of Napoleon to the Decembrist uprising. According to the famous critic V. G. Belinsky, the novel is an “encyclopedia of Russian life” of the early 19th century.
