The ambiguity of the exact content of the German program was to a certain extent clarified by information from private sources received by the Admiralty, and only then were the British projects approved. The Moltke-class armored cruiser being designed in Germany at that time promised to become much larger than expected. Therefore, the projects of the cruisers that opposed it had to become more powerful than the Indefatigable-class cruisers.
