“Gnedich” is a new and unexpected novel by Maria Rybakova. It happens that poets begin to write prose over the years. Here is a completely different, opposite case: a novel in verse. The novel - with a branched composition, numerous characters - is dedicated to the poet, the first Russian translator of the Iliad, Nikolai Gnedich. The novel included both the life time of Gnedich and his friend Batyushkov, and the epic time of Homer. And the space of the novel covers St. Petersburg, Vologda and Paris, the boudoir of actress Semenova, Gnedich’s office and the closet of a Chukhon woman in love. The novel is written in the form of songs - like the Iliad itself.
