Robert Merle's novel A Weekend on the Ocean, awarded the Prix Goncourt, is based on autobiographical material and describes the vicissitudes of a soldier's life. This book is a story about the tragic days of Dunkirk, a small seaside town in northern France, whose life was so mercilessly war broke out. And it turned out that for the majority of French soldiers there is no longer any past, no future, no hopes, but only fear, destruction and chaos, in which even the moment of death becomes indistinguishable.
