The novel by the classic English detective novel by New Zealand native Edith Nyo Marsh (1899–1982) “Murder Roman Style” (1970) belongs to the late period of Marsh’s work. By that time, such fierce opponents of the classic detective story as Hammett, Chandler and Spillane had died down and passed away, Chester Himes and Ross Macdonald had written their main works, the generation of today's legislators of the hard-boiled detective story had not yet arrived - and Naio Marsh continued to write in her leisurely, slightly in an old-fashioned manner, assuring readers that our world is not completely corrupted and that good is still capable of defeating evil.
