Francesco Petrarca is the creator of European lyric poetry, who was the first to substantiate the importance of the poet as an original thinker. This edition presents Petrarch’s main philosophical works “Letter to Posterity” and “Book of Conversations on Contempt for the World.” Petrarch shows himself to be a friend of many eras at once and defends the renewed ideal of a sage who does not withdraw from the world, but is open to the unexpected events of the world.
