The founder of modern lyricism, the world-famous poet of the Italian Renaissance Francesco Petrarca (1304–1374), not only changed the content of poetry, but also created a perfect poetic form. His poems are musical and his images are elegant. Petrarch's lyrics had a great influence on the development of European poetry. Along with Dante and G. Boccaccio, he is considered the creator of the Italian literary language. In his youth, Petrarch prepared to become a lawyer, but the desire to become famous forced him to write. And although towards the end of his life he realized the frailty of glory before eternity, he still achieved what he wanted - the poet was crowned with laurels in the Roman Capitol. This collection presents all 317 sonnets of this immortal poet. They are addressed to a real-life woman and consist of two parts: “On the life of Madonna Laura” and “On the death of Madonna Laura.” The book opens with the autobiographical prose “Letter to Descendants,” which is perhaps the first of its kind.
