For many centuries, Bulgarian gypsies made a living by entertaining people in the squares with dancing bears. One day it all ended: the animals were taken from their former owners and placed in a special reserve. From now on, yesterday's artists are left to their own devices, but will they be able to get used to their new life? For Polish journalist Witold Szablowski, dancing bears are a powerful metaphor for exploring the post-communist world. He travels around European countries and meets local residents. There are no ready-made answers in his book. The author invites the reader to try to answer the questions himself, and he is only a guide.
