First edition: Edward S. Ellis. Seth Jones; or, The Captives of the Frontier. Dime Novels. No. 8. October 1860. School teacher Edward Ellis (1840-1916) wrote about five hundred books under various pseudonyms. Among them are adventure novels (“ten-cent novels”), biographies, and textbooks. One of the very first “ten-cent novels,” Seth Jones, or Prisoners of the Frontier (1860), was written under the influence of Fenimore Cooper’s pentalogy about Leatherstocking. The original text has entered the public domain. Here is the first translation into Russian. The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. For the most part, the translation of the text is of very high quality, but in some cases, due to the imperfection of the technology, there may be incorrect phrase translations in the text, as well as single words and expressions may not be translated.
