This sketch describes the paths leading to understanding the image of the city as conveyed by the great artist of words. This determines the approach to the topic: from the city to the literary monument. There is no need to look for literary characterization here. Traces of the city in the writer’s work are noted here. For the study of literature as art, the sketch can only be of interest as material for questions of the psychology of creativity. This book is intended for those who have a highly developed topographical sense and know the power of the terrain over our spirit.
