Nikolay Pavlovich Antsiferov (1889–1958) is a brilliantly educated person, historian, local historian, who devoted his entire life to the study of St. Petersburg. The author of the works “Petersburg in Blok’s poetry”, “City Life”, “The Soul of Petersburg”, “Pushkin in Tsarskoe Selo”, etc. In total, he wrote over 50 books and articles about this city. A dream city, a utopian city, a city- obsession and phantom city. Its history is overgrown with legends that form a special St. Petersburg myth. It was sung by Russian poets and writers who lived and worked here for two centuries. Antsiferov wrote inspired poetic stories about him. He was interested in houses and streets, alleys and bridges; he described the models of human relations in this city, the manner of communication of St. Petersburg residents, literary, musical and everyday traditions. He was concerned about the problems of the power of St. Petersburg over the human soul and consciousness - he considered this power to be the strongest in the world. He listened to the dialogue between man and city. Antsiferov created a whole world out of St. Petersburg, living its own self-sufficient life.
