First editions: 1) Buffalo Bill: The King of Border Men. Street and Smith's New York Weekly, 1869; 2) Buffalo Bill and His Adventures in the West. N.Y.: J. S. Ogilvie, 1886. Adventurer and journalist Ned Buntline (real name Edward Zane Carroll Judson, 1813-1886) during his life wrote many cheap adventure books, the so-called. "ten-cent novels." All of them are now forgotten, but thanks to his books, the myth of the Wild West and the Western genre appeared. The novel “Buffalo Bill and His Adventures in the West” tells about William Frederick Cody, nicknamed Buffalo Bill (1846-1917), whose fame began precisely with Buntline’s books . Another main character is James Butler Hickok, nicknamed Wild Bill (1837-1876), already known by that time from journalistic publications. The original text has passed into the public domain. Here is the first Russian translation. Illustrations taken from the 1886 edition. The cover used is the cover of the program “Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show” (1884). The chapter titles are given by the translator. The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. For the most part, the translation of the text is of very high quality, but in some cases, due to the imperfection of the technology, there may be incorrect phrase translations in the text, as well as single words and expressions may not be translated.
