First editions: 1) Buffalo Bill: The King of Border Men. Street and Smith's New York Weekly, 1869; 2) Buffalo Bill and His Adventures in the West. N.Y.: J. S. Ogilvie, 1886. Adventurer and journalist Ned Buntline (real name Edward Zane Carroll Judson, 1813-1886) during his life wrote many cheap adventure books, the so-called. "ten-cent novels." All of them are now forgotten, but thanks to his books, the myth of the Wild West and the Western genre appeared. The novel “Buffalo Bill and His Adventures in the West” tells about William Frederick Cody, nicknamed Buffalo Bill (1846-1917), whose fame began precisely with Buntline’s books . Another main character is James Butler Hickok, nicknamed Wild Bill (1837-1876), already known by that time from journalistic publications. The original text has passed into the public domain. Here is the first Russian translation. Illustrations taken from the 1886 edition. The cover used is the cover of the program “Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show” (1884). The chapter titles are given by the translator.
