First editions: 1) On the Death Trail; or, The Last of Wild Bill. Street and Smith's New York Weekly, 1880; 2) Wild Bill's Last Trail. N.Y.: Street & Smith, 1900. Adventurer and journalist Ned Buntline (real name Edward Zane Carroll Judson, 1813-1886) wrote many cheap adventure books, the so-called “ten-cent novels,” during his life. All of them are now forgotten, but thanks to his books, the myth of the Wild West and the Western genre appeared. The main character of the novel “Wild Bill's Last Trail” is the famous scout (scout), sheriff, shooter, gambler James Butler Hickok, nicknamed Wild Bill (1837-1876). The original text has passed into the public domain. Here is the first Russian translation of the novel. The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. For the most part, the translation of the text is of very high quality, but in some cases, due to the imperfection of the technology, there may be incorrect phrase translations in the text, as well as single words and expressions may not be translated.
