One of Brecht's most relevant plays today. “Mr. Puntila and his servant Matti” was created based on stories and sketches by the Finnish writer Hella Vuolijoki. The story centers on the tyrant Puntila, a wealthy Finnish landowner. He's kind, welcoming, and generous — while he's drunk. But as soon as he sobers up, he immediately becomes cruel, selfish and calculating. Brecht frames his thoughts on the nature of power in the form of reckless comedy.
