The story centers on the tyrant Puntila, a wealthy Finnish landowner. He's kind, welcoming, and generous — while he's drunk. But as soon as he sobers up, he immediately becomes cruel, selfish and calculating. Brecht frames his thoughts on the nature of power in the form of reckless comedy.
