The poetic responses to Pushkin’s death published below were extracted by us from several handwritten sources stored in the funds of the Manuscript Department of the Pushkin House. Heterogeneous in nature and the literary and social environment that gave rise to them, they are isolated and, in terms of research, “random” and, of course, are not able to give any kind of holistic picture of the struggle of various social groups around the name of the poet. Nevertheless, they can add certain touches to this kind of picture and, despite all their individual differences, they have something in common that allows them to be united not only on thematic grounds.
The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. For the most part, the translation of the text is of very high quality, but in some cases, due to the imperfection of the technology, there may be incorrect phrase translations in the text, as well as single words and expressions may not be translated.
