The remarkable writer Philip Roth, recognized during his lifetime as a classic of American literature, is familiar to Russian readers primarily as the author of the scandalous novel “The Portnoy Case.” Meanwhile, in America, a square in his hometown is named after him. Roth’s new novel, The Plot Against America, is the story of a small town on the East Coast during World War II. The author allowed himself only one assumption: it is not Roosevelt who wins the US presidential election, but his rival Lindbergh, as a result of which fascists come to power in the White House.
