Grigory Anisimovich Fedoseev (1899–1968) wrote about the Far Eastern regions adjacent to the Sea of Okhotsk with full knowledge of the matter: he himself worked there for many years on geodetic expeditions, which gradually filled in the blank spots on the map of the Soviet Union. Among the dangers and trials with which the fate of a traveler-researcher is rich, the characters of people are especially clearly revealed. In the taiga or swampy tundra you cannot work and live half-heartedly - harsh nature does not forgive mistakes and weaknesses. One of Fedoseev’s most charming characters was Ulukitkan (“little squirrel” translated from Evenki) - Semyon Grigorievich Trifonov. The old man more than once accompanied surveyors as a guide, taught them to understand and feel nature, because “the mother gives life, years give wisdom.” The writer generously shares this age-old, hard-won wisdom of the northerners on the pages of his books. The book includes the writer’s most famous works: “The Path of Tests,” “Death Will Wait for Me,” “The Evil Spirit of Yambuya” and “The Last Fire.”
