The classic of French literature Théophile Gautier (1811–1872) visited Russia twice. He was in Moscow and St. Petersburg in the winter of 1858/59. In the summer of 1861, the writer sailed on a ship from Tver to Nizhny Novgorod. This book is a poetic and colorful presentation of T. Gautier’s impressions of his travels to Russia.
