"Old Capital" is a novel-story by the famous Ukrainian writer Ivan Bagryany, which was written in 1930. The book tells about the fate of the Ukrainian intelligentsia at the beginning of the 20th century, during the revolutionary events of 1917-1920. The main character, a young intellectual, finds himself in difficult socio-political conditions, where he has to find his way amid the construction of a new statehood and difficult trials.
Due to its refined language style and deep philosophical undertones, "Old Capital" became one of the key works of Ukrainian literature of the first half of the 20th century.
