The novel by the Japanese writer, Nobel Prize winner, is dedicated to a turning point in the history of Go - the months-long game of Meijin Shusai, a great player of the old school, with Kitani Minoru (in the novel - Otake seventh dan), who, together with Go Seigen ("Wu Qingyuan" ), became the founders of modern Go.
