The novel “Levitan” is dedicated to the period of the writer’s life that he spent in the prisons of socialist Yugoslavia. The plot is based on real events, but all the material is passed through the prism of the author's creative exploration of the world. Zupan's autobiographical novel performs the special functions of historical testimony and social research. The main character, Jacob Levitan, was forced to take exams every day for perseverance, self-confidence, and honor. The result of studying at the “prison universities” was the complete internal liberation of the hero, who experienced true freedom of spirit.

Глибокий та зворушливий роман про внутрішню свободу
Роман «Левітан» – це не просто автобіографічна розповідь, а справжнє дослідження людської душі в умовах жорстоких реалій соціалістичної Югославії. Автор, Зупан, майстерно передає атмосферу тюремного життя, де головний герой Якоб Левітан проходить через численні випробування, які формують його характер і світогляд. Книга вражає своєю глибиною, адже вона не лише розповідає про фізичні страждання, але й про боротьбу за внутрішню свободу. Читач відчуває емоції героя, його страхи та надії, що робить цю історію надзвичайно близькою і зрозумілою. Хоча переклад тексту іноді має недоліки, загальна якість викладу і глибина думок компенсують ці недоліки. Рекомендую всім, хто цікавиться історією, психологією та філософією свободи!
