The book by Yu. M. Lotman (1922–1993), an outstanding philologist and cultural scientist, founder of the Tartu-Moscow semiotic school, includes articles that illustrate the concept of culture as a text, which brought the scientist worldwide fame. Specific objects such as art, society, individual and collective behavior are considered here as texts operating within a complex semiotic organism - culture. The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. For the most part, the translation of the text is of very high quality, but in some cases, due to the imperfection of the technology, there may be incorrect phrase translations in the text, as well as single words and expressions may not be translated.
