Captain Marryat (pseud. Frederick Marryat, 1792 - 1848) gained fame as the author of the so-called sea novel. Marryat was a sailor, participated in battles, and knew sea life very well. The novel “Naval Officer Frank Mildmay,” published in 1829, became the author’s first literary experience. The hero of the novel joins the navy and goes through all stages of naval service, accompanied by extraordinary adventures. The novel vividly and interestingly describes the order of sea life, the morals of the ship's crew and its main representatives. It successfully combines authenticity and fascinating romantic fiction.
