The novels of the French writer Marcel Aimé (1902–1967) “The Stranger's Boxes” and “The Rolling Camera” are published in Russian for the first time. In terms of the complexity of the composition and the deliberate nakedness of literary techniques, they are close to the quest of some representatives of the “new novel”, as well as the line of absurdity among the existentialists. In the novel “Stranger's Boxes”, against the backdrop of a half-detective, half-fantastic plot with humor reaching the point of sarcasm, the strangely intricate relationships of the heroes with their small momentary tragedies and global philosophical research. It’s as if the heroes of the novel “Camera on a Rolling Camera” are flashing in an old film, which boldly combines deep feelings with base instincts, admiring aesthetic conversations with outright stupidity, noble friendship with indifferent betrayal.
